BOOKS IN THE NEWS - ZEEKA AND THE ZOMBIES

ZEEKA AND THE ZOMBIES is soon to be made into a local play.
Zeeka and the Zombies is the first book in the mind-blowing Revenge of Zeeka five-book Science Fiction series.
It is the year 2036 and it is a high-tech world.
Dr. Raynor Sharpe has a vision of zombie-like men with small heads walking on the beach.
Was he dreaming or was it a reality?
He receives a call from Dr. George Brown.
Upon his arrival he is surprised to hear Dr. Brown say that a zombie visited him, he sedated him and placed him in Room Nine.
He had no name and he called him Number Nine.
The zombie told Dr. Brown that his Master was Zeeka and there were fifty others like him planning an attack on the hospital.
The mystery deepens when Number Nine disappears from the hospital.
Was he really a zombie and was he speaking the truth?
Read a review from an ardent fan: "This was such a fun read. The reading world is crammed with zombie stories, but I'll bet you haven't read one like this. It had the feel of an old black and white sci-fi movie, which I love, blended with modern themes and a more modern medical aspect. Considering the length, I was surprised by how much was packed in it as things zipped along. I really loved Janet and Raynor and found their relationship a nice addition. I'm so curious to learn more about the 'zombies' and Zeeka in the next parts"

CELEBRATING SIX YEARS OF WRITING.

CELEBRATING SIX YEARS OF WRITING.

Today is exactly six years since I started writing.
It was an amazing journey right from the beginning.
My first book about Cancer brought me many fans.
From that day onward I succeeded with my plans.

Writing twenty-one books was not easy for me.
When I needed a break I wrote a bit of poetry.
I wrote in multiple genres with readers in mind.
Each of my books turned out to be one of a kind.

Some earned prestigious awards and great reviews.
Others came to the forefront because they amuse.
Climbing high in the ranks on the Amazon chart.
Starring in groups as Book of the Month was a good start.

One book will soon be made into a local play.
Oh, how I am looking forward to that day.
When we can sit in the Trinidad Academy of Performing Arts,
Enjoying my characters acting out their parts.

Red River Radio Interviews with Brenda Mohammed

Today I had an interview on Red River Radio hosted by Barbara Ehrentreu.
Barbara is a great host.
Joining us on the show was Shiju H. Pallithazheth Author of Katashi Tales and Founder of Motivational Strips.
Thank you Barbara Ehrentreu for this wonderful interview on your Radio Show. It was lots of fun speaking to you and Shiju H. Pallithazheth.
You were a perfect host.
If readers want to listen to the interview please click on this link.
Here are the Interview Questions and answers:

Where were you born and where do you live now?
Barbara, I was born in Trinidad and I still live here. I have travelled to many Countries all over the world but I love my home in Trinidad.

Besides writing what is your occupation now? What made you decide to stop being a banker and work in insurance? Why did you leave the insurance field if you are not there anymore?
I am a former Bank Manager. My job was to give loans and overdrafts to business people. I turned many of them into millionaires. I took early retirement from Banking and moved into insurance. I also excelled there. But I fell ill and had to go abroad for a few months for treatment. After I got better I wrote a book about my illness. I am Cancer Free. It was a best seller and it won many awards.

Do you have any hobbies?
My hobbies are reading and writing. I go to the movies now and then and travel around the island with my nieces and sisters in my spare time.

Who or what influenced you to begin writing?
As I mentioned earlier, the first book I wrote was, I am Cancer Free. Because of the success of that book, I continued writing.

You have written 21 books and you keep adding to this number. In what way would you say this has changed your life?
Writing has changed my life because it has taken me in a different direction for which I did not plan.
I used to think Banking was the best occupation, but after leaving banking, a whole new world opened up for me.
I was very successful in Insurance and qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table, the Premier Association for Financial Professionals six times in a row.
I was made a Lifetime member of MDRT.
Since I started writing in 2013, I have won several awards and I still cannot believe that my books were that good.

Please tell our listeners about a typical day of writing for you.
I do my writing late at night when it is very quiet and I can concentrate on what I am writing about.
There is no set routine.

I know you have so many books we would need at least ten shows to talk about all of them. Please tell us about your latest one.
I will tell you about Zeeka Chronicles because that book won many awards.
ZEEKA CHRONICLES: REVENGE OF ZEEKA is a science fiction novel that consists of five spine-chilling stories.
It will Take you on a futuristic Journey into the year 2036.
These highly imaginative tales would keep you spellbound.
It is a story of one man's misuse of science for revenge.
Prepare to hold on to your seats as you will encounter zombies, robots using taekwondo skills, and you may have to dodge high tech weapons and shrinkenators.
Handsome doctors like Dr. Raynor Sharpe and Dr. Steven Sharpe along with beautiful Dr. Janet Jones-Sharpe will take care of you at the Gosh hospital.
Intertwined in the first part of this futuristic tale is a romance about Janet and Raynor which will warm your hearts.
The highlight of the story is the life of the protagonist Dr. Steven Sharpe who was kidnapped as a child.
Zeeka Chronicles: Revenge of Zeeka was an award winner in the Category Young Adult Thriller in Readers Favorite International Awards 2018, winner in Science Fiction in SIBA Awards 2017, winner of the gold award in the category science fiction in Emagazine Readers' Choice Awards 2018, and winner in the top ten finalists for science fiction in the Author Academy Global Awards 2018,.
Here is an extract from a Readers Favorite Review:
"Brenda Mohammed's writing style is evocative of the future and she handles the science in her fiction brilliantly: reading is believing!
I loved Zeeka Chronicles; it has worldwide appeal for anyone looking for an entertaining story that is different.'

Looking at your bio you have compiled a huge amount of awards. Would you please let our listeners know what they are and why you received them?
In November 2018 I won two awards with Readers Favorite International for two of my books, I AM CANCER FREE in the category Health and Fitness and ZEEKA CHRONICLES in the category Young Adult Thriller.
I travelled to Miami to collect those awards.
I won other awards for some of my other books but those are not as popular as Readers Favorite.
The other awards you see on my Bio are Literature awards that I received from the World Nations Writers Union and Motivational Strips.

You also have written poetry and you are an administrator for Motivational Strips. How is writing poetry different for you than writing prose? Which do you like better?
I was not a poetry writer before joining Motivational Strips.
I grew to love poetry after I became a member and read the fantastic contributions from other members.

What are you doing to promote your latest book? Will you be doing any online or in person promotions?
I do all my promotions on Social Media and they have worked well for me.

What was it like to edit a book like Katashi Tales? As an editor, I understand the problems involved with editing another person’s work. How did the distance and the time affect your working on this book?
I was hesitant at first to take on an editing job.
I had never edited another person’s book before.
I could not refuse a man like Shiju H Pallithazheth.
He is very kind-hearted to all the members in his group and the affiliate groups.
When he approached me I agreed immediately.
The distance and time difference of eight hours did not affect our working on the book.
I always wondered if Shiju slept at all.
He was intent on producing the best book that would be read all over the world, and he succeeded.
I am truly grateful that I had a major role to play in getting that book out to the public.
It was a great deal of fun working with Shiju. He made me laugh a lot.

Please let our listeners know where they can find your books.
All my books can be found on Amazon. Here is the Amazon Universal link. CLICK HERE.

Finally, this is a question I ask all of the people here on Tales from the Pages, are you a pantser or a plotter? In other words, do you just write or do you outline before you write?
Barbara, I do an outline, but I never stick to it because my characters start writing their own stories.
Sometimes the whole plot gets thrown out when I write the dialogue, and the story takes a new and exciting turn.

Library Donations by Author Brenda Mohammed

I was invited on May 18th to a Library function at Naparima College to a photoshoot to present books I donated to the Library.
The photos were posted on the Naparima College Library Facebook page later that day.
There was media personnel present also, so pictures may appear in the local press.
When the Librarian, Andrea Charles, saw KATASHI TALES, she remarked, “The students love Folk Tales. They will love this book.” She looked through the book and loved the content. I told her that the author Shiju H Pallithazheth is from Muscat, Oman. As I was the Chief Editor he was pleased that the book was being placed in school libraries in Trinidad so that students can experience different forms of literature.
I explained that it was an initiative of both Narendra Rajkumar and myself to donate books to schools on the island.
When she saw HOW TO WRITE FOR SUCCESS she loved it too and asked if I would be available at end June to do a session with students on how to write.
She was also very pleased with A Spark of Hope and Memoirs of my Father.

Later that day this message with pictures was posted on the Facebook Page of Naparima College Library.

Here is the latest review:

“Zeeka Chronicles” is a futuristic story, taking place twenty years from now. After an outbreak of Zika virus on a small island in the US, strange events start taking place, and doctor Raynor and his colleagues, who still remembered the events of twenty years ago, have to deal with the consequences. A strange creature appears in the hospital, claiming to be one of the dead babies, buried by the state many years ago, dug out by the mad scientist and turned into zombies with a sinister goal…
The book consists of two parts, and the second book unveils dark secrets, which concern Raynor’s family and his brother’s disappearance. “Zeeka Chronicles” is a highly compelling mixture of sci-fi, supernatural, and dystopian genres, which make it an even more interesting read. And the story of the zombie number nine in the end made just a perfect finale that put a big smile on my face."

SEARCH: ENQUIRY: AUTHOR INTERROGATION
ALEXA WAYNE (AW): When did you find out you would want to write novels?

BRENDA MOHAMMED: It was never my intention to become a writer. I wrote I am Cancer Free to tell persons in a similar position that cancer is a battle you have to fight and win. The response I received from buyers and readers encouraged me to write more books.

I am Cancer Free was the winner of McGrath House Indie Book Awards in the category Non-Fiction in September 2016 and won an award from Readers Favorite International Book Awards 2018 in the category Health and Fitness.

AW: You mentioned your work, all set in science-fiction or cyborg settings, would you let our readers know why you are attracted to that genre?

BRENDA MOHAMMED: I am a multi-genre writer but suddenly got an idea for a science fiction series when I read about the zika virus.
It was set in the year 2036 and based on events which took place 20 years before.

After writing the first three books, Zeeka and the Zombies, Zeeka’s Child, and Zeeka Returns I combined them into one book named
Revenge of Zeeka: Horror Trilogy. That book received a five-star review from Readers Favorite.
I thought I was done with the series, but Zeeka haunted me in my dreams.
I had the same dream for almost a month.

He insisted that I write the fourth book, Zeeka’s Ghost because he said that I did not tell the full story.

“What do you mean by the full story?” I asked him.
He replied, “Start writing and I will tell you what to write.”
I said, “But you are dead. You committed suicide. How can you tell me what to write?”
“Do you believe in ghosts?” he asked.

I wrote Zeeka’s Ghost, the fourth book, which was unplanned and believed it or not, Zeeka told me what to write.

I was still not finished with the series. He returned in my dreams and told me to write the fifth book, Resurrection to reveal the true identity of Zombie Number Nine. I was guided by him to do that book as well.

You must think that I am crazy, but I believe all writers experience something similar.

I combined all five stories into one book named Zeeka Chronicles: Revenge of Zeeka. The book won an award in Readers Favorite International Awards 2018.

AW: When writing about sci-fi, do you do research and if so, how far do you go with your research?

BRENDA MOHAMMED: Yes. When I wrote the Zeeka stories, I researched for high-tech weapons, robots, programmable zombies, and other technology in the year 2036 but found nothing.

My eight-year-old grandson came up with names for weapons and technological equipment, and I am very proud of him. Reviewers commented positively on the shrinkenator, zombies, robots, and weapons.

AW: What is most important to you when writing your novels?

BRENDA MOHAMMED: I write with the readers in mind. I want my readers to experience every emotion expressed by my characters such as love, joy, rage, terror, disappointment, and sorrow.

AW: Which authors influenced your writing in science-fiction?

BRENDA MOHAMMED: I cannot name a science fiction author because I never read any science fiction books that interested me. I can name movies that enthralled me like Star Wars, Star Trek, Back to the Future, T-Rex, Ex Machina and many more.

AW: Which of your novels is your favorite and why is it your favorite?

BRENDA MOHAMMED: Zeeka Chronicles: Revenge of Zeeka is my favorite novel. It was my first try at science fiction, and it was a great success. It received a five-star review from Readers Favorite soon after I published it, and won several awards as follows:

Award winner in the Category Young Adult Thriller in Readers Favorite International Awards 2018.

Winner of the gold award in the category science fiction in E-magazine Readers’ Choice Awards 2018.

Top ten finalist in the Author Academy Global Awards 2018.

Winner in Science Fiction in SIBA Awards 2017.

AW: Do you believe in alien visiting our world, by that I mean in abduction or close encounters of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th kind?

BRENDA MOHAMMED: No. I do not believe in aliens although I may write about them. I regard them as fiction.

AW: What made you decide to be self-published?

BRENDA MOHAMMED: I chose self-publishing as I wanted the freedom to revise my books or covers whenever I want without having to wait on a publisher to do so.

AW: What sets you apart from other science-fiction and cyborg authors?

BRENDA MOHAMMED: I don’t consider myself a famous science fiction writer. However, the book, Zeeka Chronicles: Revenge of Zeeka did win awards from Readers Favorite and other entities. Reviewers have emphasized its originality, so it is worth reading.

AW: What can readers look forward to from Brenda Mohammed in 2019?

BRENDA MOHAMMED: In January 2019 I released my first book of poetry. Strength for the Disheartened: Motivational Poems is free to download on Amazon and Books2Read.

I had founded a Facebook group called How to Write for Success in February 2017. In October 2018 I affiliated it to another Facebook group called Motivational Strips. Both groups have the same mission of Writers’ Empowerment. Because of that association, I have developed a passion for poetry.

On February 2nd 2019 both groups produced A Spark of Hope: An Anthology of Poems for Saving Lives. The book topped the charts on Amazon and made New Release No.1 within the space of two days.

In February 2019, I released a crime fiction, The Axe Murderer: Barry Holmes Investigates.

I am also taking part in a couple of anthologies for short stories. Whether or not I will write another science fiction book only time will tell.
