MADRID - SPAIN

MADRID, SPAIN

We flew with Iberia airlines to Madrid from Barcelona.
Stayed in the lovely city at Hotel Senator Espana Spa.
Visited a queen’s famous palace Plaza de la Almudena.
Toured the Santa Maria La Real Cathedral before dinner.

We visited several souvenir shops to buy gifts for the family.
Took an Express train to Toledo, a town famous for Spanish jewelry.
We watched as a guy made beautiful Damascene necklaces.
Purchased a few to give as gifts to friends and relatives.

Dinner that night at Cortes Ingles was delicious and satisfying.
Next day visited the Museum of Art to view beautiful paintings.
Life-like art by renowned artists lined the walls of the Museum.
Bought copies of masterpieces for framing in our homes.

TRAVEL MEMOIRS - TRIP TO ROME

                           TRIP TO ROME

Rome is a city with a great deal of history.

Despite its beauty, it’s full of mystery.

The colosseum, a tourist site had its gory days.

Vatican City is a unique mini-state.

In 2009 Rome was part of our travels.

Toured the Vatican Museum and sat in the Sistine Chapel.

Walked through the Gallery of Tapestries.

Feasted our eyes on Michelangelo’s masterpieces.

The Belvedere Courtyard and other fabulous rooms

Were filled with paintings and art. I almost swooned

When we visited St. Peter’s Basilica we saw the catacombs.

Stood in awe when we saw St. Peter’s tomb.

Another interesting place was the Trevi Fountain.

The Spanish Steps and our trip to another fountain.

Occupied our days until it was time to move on.

Leaving behind the city of legendary palaces and museums.

FREE TIME WITH YOU - RETIREMENT IS FUN.

FREE TIME WITH YOU

All I need is some free time with you,
Watching nature’s sceneries and the rainbow’s hues.
Touring new places, I have never seen before,
Go island hopping or a continental tour.

So many things to do and places to see.
I wonder when will this ever be.
With free time with you, we can explore.
I’m waiting for you to knock on my door.

Free time to have coffee or a yogurt drink,
In a nearby café or just sitting on the brink.
A sumptuous dinner for two, just me and you,
Laughing, talking, reminiscing, and not feeling blue.

Because of my love for writing true,
I’ll take along a pen and notebook too.
Just you and me, we’ll create beautiful Poetry.
We’ll write a new story for history.

Great Motivational Read!

Format: Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What can I say about "Retirement Is Fun?"
It’s a book that gives the good and the bad of living in this 21st century.
There are incredible miracles and incredible heartbreaks, yet through it all with the support of family and faith in God, we prevail.
The author wrote the accounting as it occurred, with no frills or embellishments.
She takes the reader along with her to the many places she visited.
Her obvious enjoyment in them is a testament to her wonderful spirit.
The book is written in two parts.
I was happy the author gives us the good news in the first half, that way, the reader is able to see her strength and appreciate from whence she came.
I was impressed with the places she had visited.
I’d thought I was a world traveler, but I take my hat off to her and her wonderful family.
This is a great motivational and inspirational story for anyone who needs uplifting.

An Unfazed Heroine

Format: Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The novel Retirement is Fun by Brenda Mohammed may be deceptively read as an account of a continuous intercontinental road trip.
However, Retirement is Fun can more accurately read as the saga of the quiet determination of an unassuming heroine to maintain and promote social cohesion and interdependence of the family as she knows it.
Brenda gives life to the family which in turn gives life to her.
It’s the web of family closeness facilitated by Brenda from she draws strength in her darkest hour as she is afflicted with cancer and successfully grapples with retirement.
The family dynamics begs interpretation and one finds it in the context of the social and cultural background of the collectivist substrata.
It is in Brenda’s indefatigable efforts to champion the cause of family even as she journeys through a series sicknesses, births and deaths sequences and remains unfazed that a true hero is born.

For some of us, such a life is beyond our reach. For those of us to strive just be a little bit better at what we do, each and every day, we are the kind of reader suited to this book.
5. Anyone can read it, but you will be pleasantly surprised just how the author takes on new challenges with gusto. True, she has a large family and strong network of friends egging her on, but this is clearly her own tale, and how retirement is anything but a door closing.

6. After working for many years, it is difficult to pack up your job and leave an establishment, which became like a second home.
The author wondered what she would do when she retired at a very young age. It was the policy of the bank in those days.
The birth of her grandchildren brought much joy into her life. Her book is filled with inspiration and hope and it is one that everyone should read whether you are retiring or not.

My Life as a Banker: A Life worth Living is a wonderful story detailing how the author started at a clerical level and rose to a senior position, solely on the basis of her dedication, hard work, and intelligence.
Brenda Mohammad describes how the manual work was transformed to computerization, her working at different branches and working relationship with her colleagues.
Her farewell party from the fellow workers describes how popular she was during her stay with them.
It was interesting to note, as a tradition, the groom used to write a letter to the bride's father to seek permission to marry his daughter.
This is what happened when her husband proposed her.
Description of her marriage is so beautiful and emotional.
Brenda had an extensive travelling of the United States and Europe; I enjoyed her visits to Germany and Holland the most.
Close knitting in her family and how her parents and her siblings took care of each other is worth reading;
It was touching to read how her father talked to all of his children separately before his death.
Brenda's belief in God is remarkable.

"We all face challenges. I have found that 'what doesn't kill you will make you stronger' to be true. I have recently met an inspirational writer Brenda Mohammed and in her book 'Retirement is Fun: A New Chapter' (Amazon) she reveals her triumph over hazardous challenges. Her positive outlook and faith carry her through the difficult phase between her high-profile job in a bank and retirement, but it is in these halcyon days of retirement, that life really throws her a curved ball. No matter what you are going through, make it count and enable growth. You are not alone.

Five Star Review of Retirement is Fun: A New Chapter - A Memoir

A well-written chronicle of the author's experiences and adventures since her retirement from a long career in the bank August 26, 2014 Format: Paperback This inspiring book tells of the many adventures experienced by the author after retiring from a banking career. She talks about her new career in the insurance business and narrates, with meticulous detail, the many wonderful experiences in her new life including the birth of her grandchildren, her meeting of new friends, her travels abroad, and her continued enjoyment of life. For her, life certainly did not stop at retirement. Throughout the book, the author demonstrates a positive outlook on everything that happens in her life. Not only did she endure wonderful experiences, but she also had a bout with cancer and a terrible accident in Miami. She interprets these negative events in a positive light by using them to show how her faith helped her to overcome these obstacles. The author's appreciation of life is evident as she treasures every moment with her family and the time she shares with them. As in her previous books, the author once again exhibits a remarkable memory for details as she provides a meticulous description of all her activities since retirement. The style is simple and readable. The book shows that life certainly does not end when one retires. Life continues and one must live with a positive and determined spirit to continue experiencing the joy of life and to discover one's hidden talents. I enjoyed the positive spirit shown by the author in this book. She demonstrates that it is one's attitude that counts towards one's enjoyment of life. This book is recommended for all retirees or persons contemplating retirement. Get your Copy from AMAZON

Extract from the Book, "Retirement is Fun: A New Chapter " - A Memoir

We booked in at the Adam’s Mark Hotel where we had reservations. It was a fantastic hotel with four restaurants and a night-club. Some of our friends from Trinidad stayed in that same hotel. There were buffet lunches with a wide spread of dishes. The hotel was located on the 16th Street shopping mall with free mall rides every minute of the day and we took full advantage of that to do some more shopping. There was a cinema nearby and we attended a show on Sunday. When we returned to the hotel some of the agents from my agency who were staying at another hotel came to visit me at the Adam’s Mark Hotel. On Sunday night the MDRT Welcome reception was held at the Stadium at the Invesco Field which is the football field of the Denver Broncos. The Adam’s Mark Hotel was one of the hotels reserved by MDRT to be a meeting place for members to be transported to that Stadium. Dozens of buses pulled up at the hotel to take us to our destination. When we arrived there, popular music bands entertained us. There were lots to eat and drink. It was remarkable to see agents from every part of the world having such a good time together. I met many of my other friends from other agencies and we enjoyed the night together. At the Conference, on all three days, the speakers held our attention with their dynamic presentations. There was a young teacher who won the Teacher of the Year award in America. He said that he wrote a book and sent it to Oprah Winfrey. She invited him on her show, spoke about the book and held the book close to her heart. The next day his book was Number One in America. He used the royalties to open a chain of schools in America. I wondered if I could be so lucky if I submitted my book to her. Almost all of the speakers were afflicted with cancer and survived, or had a loved one who had it and died. Despite that they were all highly successful. In our spare time we took bus tours of Denver City and the Rocky mountains. We visited Buffalo Bill’s grave and Red Rock Canyon. We met lots of friends from Trinidad and other parts of the world and had dinner with some of them. It was a remarkable and memorable trip. This book is available at Amazon Universal Link
