PROFILE OF BRENDA MOHAMMED

From Banker to Author – Who would have imagined that a harrowing diagnosis of cancer could change your career and open up a whole new world?

Author Brenda Mohammed from Trinidad and Tobago, did not choose writing as her career. It happened by chance. She was a successful bank manager who moved into Insurance after leaving the bank. She excelled there as well.

Brenda pursued a Diploma in Banking at the Institute of Bankers in London, and obtained a Diploma in Life Underwriting from the American College, USA. [LUTCF].

She qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table, the Premier Association for Financial Professionals, [MDRT] six times in a row.

Those travel opportunities broadened her knowledge in new areas which prepared her for writing.

Her writing journey began after her bout with cancer which almost killed her. Miraculously, she survived after flying to Miami for treatment.

She wrote a book I AM CANCER FREE eight years after her near-death experience, and it became a best seller. The book won an award in Readers Favorite International in 2018 in the category Health and Fitness.

Thereafter, she continued writing and has published 52 books in multi-genres to date. Among her publications are six anthologies and three magazines for the How to Write for Success Literary Network that she founded.

FOR BIOGRAPHY FANS: THE LIFE OF AN EDUCATOR

Memoirs of Dr. Andrew Moonir Khan: Journey of an Educator, is an inspiring and motivational story.
The book received four five-star reviews from Readers Favorite.
The foreword was written by a former Chief Justice of Trinidad and Tobago, Sir Isaac Hyatali, Q.C.[now deceased]
Do you know that at one time Education was not a priority?
The young teacher Andrew overcame all obstacles and became a trailblazer in Education in his country climbing the ladder from classroom management to school principal, and superintendent of schools.
The Government of Trinidad and Tobago awarded him a scholarship to study teaching methods in the United Kingdom.
School violence was never heard of during his tenure.
He was God-fearing.
Later in life, he became the first Presiding Elder in the Presbyterian Church in Trinidad and Tobago.
He preached many sermons, some of which are appended to his biography.
Dr. Khan gives a glimpse into life in the days of Indentureship in Trinidad and Tobago
Teachers will love Dr. Khan's memoir.

Extract of Review by K.C. Finn from Readers Favorite:

'Mrs. Brenda C. Mohammed has done a wonderful job of bringing the life, philosophy, and personality of Dr. Andrew Khan to life in this compilation of teachings.
As an educator myself, I was particularly interested in Dr. Khan's individualistic approach to students and the humanitarian way in which he achieved success.
Memoirs of Dr. Andrew Moonir Khan presents the life of an inspiring man who struggled through underprivileged circumstances to rise to the top of his field, all without losing his generosity of spirit or his creativity.
For educators, the book demonstrates how passion and planning can lead to a great many good things in the future, but for a wider audience, the book holds value as an inspiring story of faith and commitment to one's true path.
I would recommend this book for biography fans seeking a deep but feel-good read.'

Write, Right and Mr. Wright

WRITE, RIGHT and MR. WRIGHT.

Write, Right and Mr. Wright.
Important words my life alight.
I’ll tell you all about them
In this unusual poem.

At school, I loved to write.
My teachers said I was very bright.
Graduated at sweet sixteen.
Started working when I was just a teen.

Mr. Wright said he was right,
When he employed me at the bank.
My performance was outstanding
And promotions he kept recommending.

Because of my love for writing.
I turned to Insurance Underwriting
Writing in every form and fashion.
Writing is my lifelong passion.

Obsessed with writing on every country.
Writing books and now poetry.
My Travel Memoirs attest to that.
Today I am promoting that fact.

Excerpt from the book My Life as a Banker- Dealing with an Irate Customer

Today i want to share a short excerpt from my book My Life as a Banker: A Life Worth Living.

DEALING WITH AN IRATE CUSTOMER

"Every time I faced a difficult situation on the job, I prayed to God for the wisdom of King Solomon to deal with it.
One day I heard an irate customer quarreling loudly with a male staff member and asking to see the Manager.
He was cursing, using obscene language, and carrying on because his employers did not send his salary to the bank.
I heard the staff member trying to explain to him it was not the fault of the bank and that he should check with his employer, but to no avail.
The staff member was scared and he asked me if I would speak to him.
I must admit that I was scared too but I agreed.
After all, I was the manager and it was my responsibility to ensure that customers were satisfied
When the customer entered my office he seemed shocked to see me.
He covered his mouth with his hands, then apologized profusely for the disturbance he caused.
He repeated a few times, “Miss, I am so sorry. If I knew such a young girl was the manager I would have behaved myself. Please accept my apology. I will do anything you say.”
After offering him a seat, I chatted with him and explained that sometimes there were delays in receipt of salaries from Government agencies. He said he was a teacher and he once worked with one of the best headmasters at the Penal Presbyterian School.
He was unaware that he was speaking of my father.
When I told him that Dr. Khan was my father he was even more apologetic.
He was happy with our conversation and left the bank in a good mood."

With correct Keywords one book sale can place your book in the Top 100 Bestsellers on Amazon

Keywords are ideas and topics that define what your content is about.
In terms of SEO, they're the words and phrases that searchers enter into search engines, also called "search queries."
One book sale can place your book in the Top 100 Bestsellers on Amazon and I have proven it here.
True, these positions are very temporary but they boost your confidence and encourage you to do better marketing.
Look at these screenshots.
Heart Warming Tales reached No 58 in Romance with one book sale in early August.

I am Cancer Free was No 12 in Chemotherapy in late August.

Travel Memoirs with Pictures climbed to #72 with one sale.

She Cried for me was No 82 after one sale.

The book, Zeeka and the Zombies, has been fluctuating with many downloads as the book is FREE.

The point I am making is that Keywords are the keys to high book rankings and eventually your book sales will flourish.

Why I wrote Seven Memoirs.

At one time I was the youngest in my class in elementary school.
I was also the youngest in my class in High School
When I started to work at the bank I was the youngest employee.
That is no longer the case.
I am now one of the oldest members of my family.
Life changes, but it is worth living.
In my memoir, My Life as a Banker: A Life Worth Living, I tell it all.

After retiring from Banking, I moved on the Insurance Underwriting which took me on a whirlwind of travel and adventure. It is all detailed in Retirement is Fun: When one door closes another opens.

My children grew up and left the nest. That coupled with my Insurance job necessitated many travels. The result was a spin-off story about my travels. Travel Memoirs with Pictures: Exploring the world was written to record my travel adventures.

Life is not always a bed of roses and I soon realized that when a bout of ovarian cancer almost claimed my life. I lived to tell my story in a book, I am Cancer Free - A Memoir in which I assured others that cancer does not have to be a death sentence.

The scare of cancer helped me to assess my life and connect bible quotations and references to certain events in my life. I wrote Your Time is Now: A Time to be born and a Time to Die to connect those dots.

Dr. Andrew M. Khan was my father.
He started writing his memoirs a few months prior to his death in 1975, but unfortunately, his call by his Maker prevented him from publishing it.
In 1989, while I was still working at a bank I compiled the book, Memoirs of Dr. Andrew M. Khan: Journey of an Educator, from his diaries and other hand-written papers.
A Foreword was written by the former Chief Justice of Trinidad and Tobago Sir Isaac Hyatali [now deceased].
The finished product was made available to friends and relatives and was not published for the wider public.
This book is a new and revised version.
I wrote the book because I loved my father and felt that the life of a great Educator who rose to great heights from a humble upbringing despite several setbacks in his life, and the primitive times in which he lived, deserved to be recorded

When my pet dog died I wanted to tell her story. It is a story for all pet and dog lovers. She Cried for Me will touch your heart and I hope that you will read it.

Question and Answer with Raina Lorring

Brenda Mohammed, Author of the mind-blowing science fiction series 'Zeeka Chronicles: Revenge of Zeeka,' has written eighteen books in multi-genres.

For more on Brenda, visit her on Amazon.

WOULD YOU RATHER LIVE IN THE OCEAN OR ON THE MOON?

The moon is too far away and is lonely and undeveloped.
If I live on the moon, I would be the only woman or only person on the moon.
Where would I live?
Where would I shop?
I am a shopaholic.

I would much rather live on the ocean on a cruise ship with my family, stopping off at various exciting ports as we cruise the ocean.
My family and I have been on two cruises with Royal Caribbean Cruise ships and both were delightful.
We were treated like royals and did not have to lift a finger.

On The Majesty of the Seas, my family and I celebrated, recharged, and re-discovered everything we love -
From the poolside movie screen and the cool serenity of Vitality Spa to the charm of the Bahamas and Coco Cay.
This was the ultimate getaway for the work-hard-play-hard mentality.

On Liberty of the Seas, we cruised to Mexico. There were Broadway shows, specialty restaurants, bars and lounges plus enough pools and activities to keep adults and kids entertained day and night.

I wrote about those two cruises in one of the books I published, Travel Memoirs with Pictures: Exploring the World.

Author of the science fiction futuristic thriller series 'Zeeka Chronicles: Revenge of Zeeka," Trinidad based Author Brenda Mohammed, a former bank manager, multi-genre author, and award-winning author, has written eighteen books.
Six fascinating memoirs
A five book science fiction series
Two children's books
Two Sci-fi horror Thrillers
One self-help book on How to Write for Success

Two short story collections
Her writing journey began after her bout with cancer.

She wrote 'I am Cancer Free' and published it in June 2013 eight years after her near-death experience with cancer.

She wrote that book to tell people suffering from that disease that cancer does not have to be a death sentence.

I am Cancer Free was the winner of best non-fiction in the McGrath House Awards in 2016.

Two of her other books, My Life as a Banker and Zeeka Chronicles: Revenge of Zeeka, were award winners in Metamorph Publishing Summer Indie Book Awards 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Brenda traveled extensively on vacations and conferences for many years during her banking and Insurance careers, and even after retirement.

She donates books to schools, hospitals, and libraries.
She loves to interact with her readers and other authors.

Daniel's Vision for the World Today

Do you want to find your purpose in Life?
Are you looking for answers?
In this Memoir, Your Time is Now - A Time to be born and a Time to Die, the author uses quotations and references that connect to events in her life and the lives of others.
It is written, based on powerful words spoken by King Solomon in the Book of Ecclesiastes about times and seasons. "There is a time to be born and a time to die, and a time for every purpose under the Heaven."
The book is intended to help people understand their own lives and to realize that we are all here on earth for a purpose.

I wrote this poem in my book, YOUR TIME IS NOW: A TIME TO BE BORN AND A TIME TO DIE.
Daniel's words are reflective of the world today.

THE FUTURE WORLD

Described by Daniel
[Daniel Chapter 2]

Nebuchadnezzar had a dream, which he was unable to cipher,
A statue with a head made of fine gold, with chest and arms of silver.
Belly and thighs of bronze and legs of iron displayed,
Its feet combined of iron and clay had Nebuchadnezzar amazed.

A mighty rock smashed the statue’s feet causing it to sway
After shattering it to bits, the wind blew the bits away.
The rock covered the earth and Nebuchadnezzar awoke.
He pondered on this dream and his thoughts were provoked.

Magicians, enchanters, sorcerers, and astrologers were consulted.
All scratched their heads, and Nebuchadnezzar felt insulted.
Because the meaning of this dream was beyond their imagination
Nebuchadnezzar got mad and ordered their execution.

Daniel a captive from Judah offered an explanation,
That brought Nebuchadnezzar great jubilation.
Daniel said that Nebuchadnezzar was the head of gold
His kingdom was strong, and he would be bold.

But after his kingdom had reached its end.
An inferior one would rule again.
Yet another would rise after the second had fallen.
A kingdom of bronze would be the third to have risen.

Following that kingdom, there would be a fourth, strong as iron,
That kingdom would crush previous empires.
It would be divided as clay and iron cannot mix,
Then the kingdom of God would rise in its midst.

The kingdom of God will be as solid as a rock.
No one can crush it, whoever tries will be out of luck.
The dream was true and its meaning was certain.
The kingdom of God would stand forever unending.

Retirement is Fun is a great motivational and inspirational story for anyone who needs uplifting.

I woke up this morning to find two wonderful five-star reviews for my book, RETIREMENT IS FUN.

1.Great Motivational Read!
March 7, 2018
Format: Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What can I say about "Retirement Is Fun?" It’s a book that gives the good and the bad of living in this 21st century.
There are incredible miracles and incredible heartbreaks, yet through it all with the support of family and faith in God, we prevail.
The author wrote the accounting as it occurred, with no frills or embellishments.
She takes the reader along with her to the many places she visited.
Her obvious enjoyment in them is a testament to her wonderful spirit.
The book is written in two parts.
I was happy the author gives us the good news in the first half, that way, the reader is able to see her strength and appreciate from whence she came.
I was impressed with the places she had visited.
I’d thought I was a world traveler, but I take my hat off to her and her wonderful family.
This is a great motivational and inspirational story for anyone who needs uplifting.

2. A breath of fresh air

By Reviewed.By.Me on March 6, 2018

Cancer does not have to be a death sentence.

Book Description:
Winner of Mc Grath House Indie Book Awards 2016 in the category Best Non-Fiction.
I am Cancer Free - A Memoir, is a touching and emotional true story of a woman's battle with Ovarian Cancer.
The killer disease threatened her life and financial well- being.
Her strong faith in God saw her through all the trials she had to undergo.

Readers Favorite Five-Star Review of ‘I am Cancer Free’ by Brenda Mohammed.

I Am Cancer Free by Mrs. Brenda C. Mohammed is the poignant memoir of the author’s personal battle with cancer. Her faith in God and proving that ovarian cancer need not be a death sentence are what make this memoir a heartrending read. The author’s 'never say die' attitude, the decision not to give up in life, and finally being cancer-free will encourage everyone who has been diagnosed with the disease or who has suffered from cancer. The memoir recounts from the time of diagnosis the experiences the author went through during the treatment, her emotions, fears, finances, until the successful treatment of the disease.
It is a courageous story of survival, faith, and strength.
The author chronicles every step of her journey methodically, without leaving anything out, making the narration very personal, honest, and palpable to readers. The presence of God in everyone’s life, a positive attitude, and the power of prayers run through the memoir. The author reiterates the fact that faith in God removes all obstacles in life. The conversational style of writing connects well with readers, making it easy for them to understand her journey. The author has also shared the poems she wrote during that phase in her life, where she again speaks about her story, faith in the Lord, and a Higher Power. For all those who are suffering from cancer and are battling the disease, this book is a must-read as it will give them hope, strength, and courage to fight the disease."
The book is available at Amazon Universal Link.

Tell us a little about your hometown and your life there growing up. What did your parents do for a living?

I live in Vistabella with my husband.
It is a beautiful town in Trinidad.
Our house overlooks the ocean.
Trinidad is an island and surrounded by sea.
I did not grow up in Vistabella.
My father was a headmaster and worked all over the island at different times in his career.
As a small child, I lived in headmaster’s houses in Claxton Bay, Penal, and in Sangre Grande when he gained promotion as an Inspector of Schools. My mother was a handicraft teacher.
I wrote all about my childhood in my memoir, A Life as a Banker: A Life worth Living.

What made you decide to give up your job as a Bank Manager and pursue writing? What were your parents' reactions when they found out you wanted to write full time?

I did not give up my job as a Bank Manager. I reached the compulsory retirement age for female staff. At that time, females were allowed to retire at a much earlier age than males. I obtained a job in an Insurance Company as a Financial Advisor and continued working. I wrote my first book, “I am Cancer Free,” in 2013, after my near death experience with cancer.
I wanted to tell the world that cancer is not a death sentence. My writing career started then. My parents were not alive when I started writing.

When did you move to the Island of Trinidad and has it any way helped your creative process as an author?

I was born in Trinidad. I have had many travel opportunities with my jobs in Banking and Insurance and that has helped me with the creative process as an author.

What or who inspired the name "Zeeka" and his character? Does the name have a deeper meaning?

The Zika virus inspired the name ‘Zeeka.’ I built the story on the premise that a doctor discovered a cure for the disease but the hospital did not approve of its use. Zeeka Chronicles won Best Science Fiction Third Place in SIBA Awards 2017

Do you think it was harder or easier writing about your own life in "My Life as a Banker" as opposed to making a story up from the top of your head?

It is easier to write a true memoir than to write fiction.
With a memoir as My Life as a Banker, you already know the facts.
With non-fiction, you have to build a plot, create a story world, form characters, and many other factors have to be taken into consideration.

Have you ever got into legal trouble while researching, writing, or publishing any book?

Never.

Why did you write the book "She Cried For Me: Autobiography Of A Dog"? What were some things you hoped to achieve with this book?

When my pet dog died, I wanted to immortalize her.
The only way to do so was to write her story.
She was a dog who was badly treated by her previous owner before I adopted her.
She Cried for Me is a remarkable story for pet and dog lovers.
Proceeds from sales of the Book will go to the Animals Alive Dog Rescue Shelter, the Sanctuary referred to in the Book.

On whose life did you base the book "Memoirs of Dr. Andrew Moonir Khan" after? Of all your books, which one made you the most emotional?

Memoirs of Dr. Andrew Moonir Khan was about the life of my father. Of all my books, this book makes me the most emotional.
My father had to overcome many obstacles in his life to become a trailblazer in Education in Trinidad.
He climbed the ladder from classroom management to school principal and superintendent of schools.
Later in life, he became a Presiding Elder in his church and preached many sermons, some of which are appended to his biography.
His story is both motivational and inspiring.

We know that all a writer's books are like their children, but if you had to choose, which one would you say is your favourite?

My favourite is Zeeka Chronicles: Revenge of Zeeka. It was hard work writing the five stories in the series and compiling them into one book.
The series scored a double with Readers Favorite.
I had compiled the first three books into a trilogy called Revenge of Zeeka: Horror Trilogy.
In September 2016, I submitted the trilogy to Readers Favorite for a free review.
The book received a five-star review and five-star seal.
The following year I added two more books to the series - Zeeka’s Ghost Book 4 and Resurrection Book 5.
I compiled the five books into one book called Zeeka Chronicles.
I sent it to Readers Favorite and it received a five-star review and five-star seal.
My greatest wish is for that book to be made into a movie.

The five-book series is also available for $6.00 on Amazon.

What does your family think of your writing? Who has been your biggest source of support throughout your career?

My husband, our two children, and sisters are supportive of my writing. My daughter reads every book I write and gives me pointers.

When it comes to writing self-help books, what are some golden rules you like to follow? Where or from whom did a majority of the advice you give out in "How to Write for Success" come from?

How to Write for Success covers plotting, writing dialogue and narrative, building your story world, choosing a book title, writing the blurb, what an author should do before and after publishing, choosing categories, creating an author brand, book marketing, and most of all how to get sales and reviews.
It does not end there.
A reviewer had this to say about the book. "If you are thinking of writing a book but don't know where to start, then this book is the one for you. It's a comprehensive guide to all aspects of the process from picking your topic, deciding on your cover to how to sell your book once it's out there in the marketplace. I found many interesting facts and tips here and jotted them down as I went along. This is a book to keep and refer to on a continual basis. Well worth buying and a must-have for all writers!"
I acknowledged AllAuthor.com for its innovativeness and recommended it as one of the best website providers.
The book was on pre-order on Amazon for 0.99 cents until it was published on 1 st December 2017 when the price increased to $2.99.
It is also available in print.
To date, it has received five-star reviews and a five-star rating from Readers Favorite.

What is the best vacation you've ever been on?

I have been on several wonderful vacations and they are all detailed in my book, Travel Memoirs with Pictures. However, my very first vacation was a mega one.
It was a trip to New York, Canada, London, Germany, and Holland.
I described that trip in my book, My Life as a Banker.
That trip stands out in my mind.

Are you working on anything new? What are some new topics or stories that you want to experiment with in the future?

On November 21st, 2017 I published a free book containing exciting excerpts of all my works called Icebreakers.
The purpose of that book is to give Readers a taste of my writing.
It is available at Instafreebie and Books2Read.
I am also experimenting with other topics for fiction but those will be surprises.
